A Barnabas Christmas: The Holiday Through My Eyes

I woke up at three o’clock on the happiest day of the year. My masters, Mia and Sadie, were rummaging around in the food box and were eating cheese. I looked longingly at the cheese. Whenever there is food, I wake up in seconds.
I started making noise in my crate to get my masters’ attention. It took forever for them to see me, and when they did see me, they ignored me. This made me irritated. I made as much noise as I could.
When my masters did take me out of my crate, they put me in it again within the next minute. I was annoyed, but I fell asleep shortly afterwards.
When I woke up seven hours later, I was greeted by the smiling faces of my masters and I was given a raw hide, which delighted and entertained me. Before I knew it, an hour was gone, and so was the raw hide. I thought back to the memory of the delicious chewy-ness which was the raw hide. No, I told myself. I must not think of the delicious, meat tasting, ever chewy…..
And there I was, thinking of what must not be thought about while Master Mommy was preparing a feast for my masters’ noon meal. I stopped thinking of IT and crawled under the table to investigate the crumbs.
At the end of the holiday, I can only try not to think of IT, and express my desire for another raw hide, er, Christmas very soon
